A 'found' Christmas Carol poem written and read for the St Cyr Carol Service.

A 'found' poem based on the readings, carols and poems at the Carol Service at St Cyr's Church Stinchcombe. December 18th 2022. Mary the mother mild. Jesus her little child, the spirit of the lord upon him, with wisdom and knowledge, so vast as waters cover the sea. Peace in impossible things, thundering unthinkable wings, round an incredible star, which led, with joy at its beaming bright, its joy, its crown, that we may evermore be led to thee. The son of God, he will be, in whom nothing is impossible, a servant, I am, said she, according to your word. It couldn’t be so! But it was merry! Very! Perhaps it means a little bit more and so we, and they, all gathered, saints before the altar bending, to worship Christ the new-born king, wrapped in bands of cloth, in a manger, through there being no room in the inn. For He had seen, a scorched land, shadows, people waiting, arms outstretched, let me go there, he had said. How silently he did, to that lit...

Sermon for September 4th 2022 - the true you, with a smorgasbord of love, depression, dyslexia and a shout out to Greenbelt and our LGBTQ+ friends.

A honest sermon about being the true you, with a smorgasbord of love, depression, dyslexia and a shout out to Greenbelt and our LGBTQ+ friends. 12th Sunday after Trinity - September 4th 2022 Deut. 30:15-end, Luke 14:25-33 To commit to being a follower of Jesus is not an easy choice. And Jesus is aware of this. On several occasions he issues what are known as hard or strenuous sayings, known this way because they can seem tough, impossible or cruel. In this instance, Jesus is telling us that our families and everyday lives may not be enough to save us and may even be a hindrance. Here, He is promoting the steadfast refusal of anything displace faith in Him, of something infinitely more valuable. Jesus is challenging us to embrace commitment to him. This does not mean hating everyone else, but that following him may mean setting aside anything which may distract us from that path. It's interesting that Jesus uses the analogy of planning the building of a tower, and planning...

Joseph, Justice and truth. A sermon preached as part of a series on Joseph. July 31st 2022.

Let the words of my mouth  and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, my lord my God and Redeemer. There was a point, early in the years when I came back to church after a time away, when I had a sense that okay, now I’m Christian, it’s plain sailing from now on, life will be much simpler, there will be fewer trials and tribulations because God is with me. We’re becoming good pals now so it’ll all be fine. Turns out, only some of that was true, And only some of that is true for Joseph. We’re now in the fourth week of our series on his journey and life, so if this was the musical, it would nearly be time for the interval and a chance to stretch your legs, hoping you hadn’t lost the ticket for the drinks you ordered before the show… Last week we heard how Joseph found favour with the Pharoah and saved the people of Egypt from famine by interpreting Pharoah’s dreams. This week we take a step back to the moment before this. In today’s reading, Joseph ...

Image
A sermon for  Easter Sunday            April 17 th  2022 "May the words of my mouth and the whispering of my heart, always find favour, in your presence, Yahweh, my rock, my redeemer." Hallelujah! Christ is risen he is risen indeed! Hallelujah! We're finally here. Today we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It all comes down to this day, the greatest day in the church year and this is the day we get all the, 're’s.' resurrection renewal restore reborn and all these re’s are verbs, describing action, this is a day of change, to something new. And today we celebrate the greatest change in our history for two thousand years. And whether we like it or not, change is inevitable and it can be joyful and amazing, but can also be painful and stressful. It was all of these for Jesus And it is also for us sometimes, but a quick thought on this is that our change is ours, if it's hard, it's hard and if someone says t...
